2020 Impact Report

The report below outlines the mission, vision, and impact of The Constellation Coalition in its first year of existence. We went public with the official launch of The Constellation Coalition on March 10, 2020. Two days later, on March 12, 2020, stay-at-home orders due to Covid-19 across Ohio and much of the country brought significant unexpected challenges to launching a new nonprofit.

Through what has been a difficult 12 months for us all, we are so excited to share the stories of progress and impact of this first year and look forward with anticipation of all that’s yet to come.

Thanks for being a part of this journey.

The Constellation Coalition Board of Directors

Women were made for connection. We thrive in mutually beneficial relationships. That’s what The Constellation Coalition is all about. There is so much untapped potential amongst the world’s poor. They don’t need us to fix them. They need us to love them and invest in them. They are the solution to their own problems and through relationship we get to come alongside them as they rise above poverty.

Ashley Johnson

Founder & Executive Director, The Constellation Coalition

Our mission to empower women out of poverty connects deeply with me as an entrepreneur.  Knowing firsthand how important the relational and financial support is to being successful, every letter and every dollar matters deeply to our Sponsored Entrepreneurs. These relationships connecting women from around the world will absolutely change it for the better. I know, because I’ve seen it change mine.
Stephanie Polen

President of the Board, The Constellation Coalition

The root causes of poverty is more than just a lack of access to basic necessities of life like water, food, shelter, education, or healthcare. Inequities including gender or ethnic discrimination, poor governance, conflict, exploitation, and domestic violence also cause poverty.

Poverty is mental.

Poverty is emotional.

Poverty is racial.

Poverty is spiritual.

Poverty is political.

Poverty is physical.

Poverty is generational.

Poverty is financial.

Poverty is…

Globally, over

million people live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than

a day.

1.3 Billion people in

developing countries account for

of the world’s population living in multidimensional poverty.

“When you want to invest and create GDP, there is no better or more effective investment – no lower-hanging fruit to pick – than investing in women.”

Lloyd C. Blankfein
Former CEO
Goldman Sachs

Women-headed households re-invest

of their income into families and communities, compared to

contributed by male-headed households.

Women comprise

of the total world population, but make up only

of the global labor market.

“Empower a woman,
change the world.”

Ashley Johnson
Founder & Executive Director
The Constellation Coalition

The Constellation Coalition launched officially as a nonprofit in March 2020.

It was born from the belief that women are the key to overcoming global poverty.

Our mission is to help women overcome poverty.

We believe there are two equally important
pieces to achieving this mission…

Business Development
Genuine Relationships

Sponsorship is the most simple and effective way to combine these two approaches into a single strategy.

Our sponsorship program allows monthly Sponsors to develop a friendship with a female entrepreneur while also investing in her business training.

Through this experience, the Sponsored Entrepreneur is shown that she’s valuable and loved through genuine care. She’s also given access to the resources she needs to succeed because of her Sponsor’s investment in her business development.

All 9 available Entrepreneurs were Sponsored with our first Partner Organization in Romania!

Our Second Partner organization Joined in November, 2020, with 13 Nepali entrepreneurs for sponsorship

given to Partner Organizations Directly from Sponsorship!

Given by sponsors to buy Christmas gifts for their Entrepreneurs

Partner Organizations are the in-country training and care providers needed to successfully equip our Sponsored Entrepreneurs for success.

Each Partner Organization is a nonprofit with an established track record of:

  • Training programs for job skills and entrepreneurship development
  • A focus on empowering Women
  • Integrating Jesus into their core programs

Our Partner Organizations are the lifeblood of our Sponsorship program. In addition to their training programs they provide translation services and facilitate communication between Sponsors and Entrepreneurs.

They do an amazing job of bridging the language and culture gap to help connect women in genuine relationship.

Our First Partner Organization was Forget Me Not Ministries (FMN) in Romania.

FMN cares for at-risk Roma women and their families by providing training, employment, faith development, and parental education.

In addition to sponsorships, we also purchased an industrial paper cutter for Forget Me Not Ministries so our Sponsored Entrepreneurs could continue their skills development and production of paper bead products.

Our Second partner organization was Our Daughters International (ODI) in Nepal.

ODI rescues women and girls from sex trafficking and provides healing, safe housing, job training, & micro-business Development.

In addition to sponsorships, we also provided funding to Our Daughters International for an entire year of meals for our Sponsored Entrepreneurs in the cosmetology program.

In October 2020, we launched The Constellation Coalition Podcast. The podcast exists to connect the dots between women to change the world!

Each episode features inspiring stories of women’s empowerment and poverty alleviation from all over the world on a wide range of topics.

Bridging the gap from inspiration to practical, each episode also gives tangible opportunities for listeners to make a difference in their world through small behavior changes, thought shifts, and quick action steps.

2021 & BEYOND…

As we look forward to 2021 and beyond, our goals for growth include:

Increase our partnership with Our Daughters, International to expand our partnership to other programs in their organization.

Add two more Partner Organizations and their entrepreneurs for sponsorship.

Onboard 60 new Sponsors to 1/1 sponsorship relationships.

Begin a one-time-donation Scholarship Program to fund direct entrepreneurial training for women in developing countries.
