How Sponsorship Works

We partner with faith-based nonprofits working in vulnerable communities to eradicate poverty through business development and job creation.  When you sponsor an entrepreneur, you are supporting their work.

Once you are signed up to sponsor, we will help you cultivate a relationship with the entrepreneur you’ve chosen to sponsor.  Your role is to encourage her by showing her that she is seen, heard, known, and loved.

Our goals are…

To empower individual women to overcome poverty by starting and growing a small business.

To financially support worthy nonprofits in order that they might grow and expand their ministry.

To help women in the United States make a direct and tangible impact on a seemingly insurmountable problem.

Sponsorship Frequently Asked Questions

How much does sponsorship cost?

Sponsorships are $80/month.  This provides your entrepreneur with dignity, business development, life skills, community, and connection.

I can't afford to sponsor currently. How can I help?

We believe in a 1-to-1 sponsorship model, but if money is an issue, feel free to co-sponsor with a friend.  However, we ask that only one of you be the primary point of contact in communication to your entrepreneur.

I love your mission, but I'm not interested in sponsoring. How else can I be involved?

Thank you for your desire to join us in our mission, even if not through sponsorship.  We’d love to have your support our work by becoming a monthly donor. We’ll still send you the photo and bio of a woman your gift is benefiting as well as send you regular updates on our ministry’s impact.  As always, we’d love for you to join us in prayer for our sponsored entrepreneurs, our partner organizations, our sponsors, and our leadership team. We are fighting an uphill battle and we need Jesus to infuse every part of what we do.

Is my sponsorship tax deductible?

Yes – 100% of your monthly sponsorship is tax-deductible.  The Constellation Coalition is a registered 501(c)3 Organization.

What are my responsibilities as a sponsor?

As a sponsor, your job is to encourage and engage.  We require that all sponsors write to their sponsored entrepreneurs at least once a quarter (minimum 4 times per year).  We will send you monthly writing prompts to help you get started with topics of discussion. However, you are welcome to write about anything as long as it abides by our Sponsorship Guidelines.

Do I need to be a Christian to be a sponsor?

No – you do not have to be a Christian in order to sponsor an entrepreneur.  However, our organization is led by people who follow Jesus and the organizations we partner with also are led by people of faith.

How old do I need to be to sponsor?

You must be 18 years or older to sponsor.

How long does my sponsorship last?

We ask that all sponsors commit to a minimum of 2 years.  At the end of 2 years, both sponsor and entrepreneur will reevaluate to decide if sponsorship is further needed and wanted.  Remember these women live in impoverished communities where stability, even in the best of circumstances, can be difficult. Our program is not a quick fix, it’s a commitment for the long-haul.  While we do not want sponsorship to last indefinitely, we want it to be available for as long as the entrepreneur needs the support and is working and making progress on her goals.

Can I cancel my sponsorship at any time?

We cannot force you to remain committed for the entire 2 years, but we hope that you will stick with us, as a disruption in sponsorship could have an adverse effect on the sponsored entrepreneurs.  If you are concerned that you will not be able to commit for the entire 2 years, we ask that you consider waiting and sponsoring at a later date when you feel more confident in your ability to make that commitment.

How do I communicate with my sponsored entrepreneur?

We have provided a letter-writing form on our website (click here) where you can easily type your messages to your sponsored entrepreneur.  If you prefer to write your letters the old fashioned way, you may mail them to our PO Box at _____________.

Are there any topics I should avoid when writing my sponsored entrepreneur?

Our goal is to bring women together – to highlight our similarities, not our differences.  Please review our Sponsorship Guidelines for more information on topics that are appropriate for your communication.

What happens if I don't write my sponsored entrepreneur each quarter?

Relationships are the crux of what we do, so it is vitally important that as a sponsor, you write to your sponsored entrepreneur on a regular basis.  If you miss writing to your sponsored entrepreneur for a rolling 3 quarters (9 months), your account will be transferred from sponsor status to donor status.  This means you will no longer be paired with your sponsored entrepreneur, but your donations will continue to be automatically processed.

How often should I expect to hear from my sponsored entrepreneur?

Our partner organizations agree to send written communication a minimum of twice a year and a video communication at least once a year.  Many of the women we work with do not yet know how to read or write, so letters are dictated by the staff of our partner organizations. This adds time and energy to their already busy workload.  However, we hope that most organizations will be able to send communication more often than the minimum 3 requirements.

Can I send my sponsored entrepreneur a gift?

Due to the challenge of navigating different cultural taboos, sponsors are not allowed to send gifts to their sponsored entrepreneurs.  Your love and support are gift enough.

Will I have opportunities to visit my sponsored entrepreneur?

Absolutely!  We plan to take regular (either annual or bi-annual) trips to visit our partner organizations with our sponsors.  Keep an eye on your inbox for details when future trips are planned.

Couldn't I just send money directly to your partnering organizations?

You absolutely can!  We know our program isn’t for everyone.  So if you discover an organization that we partner with that you would like to support directly, please do so!  These organizations have been vetted by our Board of Directors and have our stamp of approval.  However, direct donations to these organizations do not provide opportunities to form relationships and ongoing support with individual entrepreneurs.
